The NHL just won big!

24 06 2013

So the Blackhawks are Stanley Cup champions for the second time in four years. Many bloggers will be discussing and analyzing tonight’s game and the entire playoffs, so I’ll steer clear of that.

I will say this, however. With the ending we got tonight, with 2 goals in the last minute, and the best dawn hockey we’ve seen all season played during the last two weeks, the NHL just made a huge step in establishing a fan base in the US. NBC made record numbers during these playoffs, and the games are getting more and more coverage in news outlets (and, for once, for reasons other than a vicious cheap shot or a brawl).

It’s a good thing because let’s face it : if the NHL is to thrive (and no matter was people on Québec City think), they need Americans. Or I should say,  they need American money!

Time for Jacques Martin to go…

8 12 2011

I never ever say this! I’ve been among those that say it’s the players fault if they lose, not the coach. But even I have to admit that Jacques Martin’s system isn’t working anymore!

It sucks because I was always ready to give him a chance. There has been a lot of fans, mostly among the anglo fans for some reason, that have been calling for Martin’s firing ever since his first season. I think that’s a bit harsh, especially considering that he brought his team in the top 4 two years ago!

Another reason why I don’t want them to fire Martin, is that we’ll have to suffer lectures after lectures on how it’s important that the head coach be a Francophone, or else all hell will break loose! I’ve always said, as long as the coach wins, he can speak whatever he wants!

But still, I think that right now, it’s time for a change! Sorry Jacques!

Who thinks Bob Hartley’s ready to come back to Canada? ;)

Why the Bruins don’t deserve the Cup…

15 06 2011

The one thing that comes to mind, after seeing the Canucks blow it tonight, is this: The best team may have won, tonight, but the Bruins didn’t deserve the Stanley Cup!

They play crass hockey! They have a few good players, but most of the time, it’s all about ramming the guy in the boards, charging the goalie, and scrapping after the whistle! And can people please stop with Tim Thomas? He is NOT a good goalie! I can’t believe they gave him the Conn Smythe!

And worst of all, they seem to get away with murder! Chara’s hit on Paccioretti is an obvious one, but Monday’s hit by Johnny Boychuk on Mason Raymond was a vicious cheap shot, a text-book boarding penalty that broke a guy’s vertebræ. He should have been suspended, but he didn’t even get a minor on the play!

So, yeah, I’m happy for Mark Recchi, I guess, and Claude Julien, but in the end, I’m just pissed that the Canucks decided to play like pussies on the biggest game of the year! Way to choke, guys!

Le pari de Sweet Lou

16 08 2010
